Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge, respectlessly called coathanger by the locals, has spanned the harbour since 1932 after nine years of construction. It is one of the longest one-bow bridges in the world with a length of 1,150 m; the bow itself being 504 m long. Thus the bridge is just 66 cm shorter than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, but much heavier; 53,000 tons of steel were used in the building process. Each day over 200,000 cars cross the bridge paying a toll of $2 each when entering the city.
