Palm Valley

One of the gems of the Outback is Palm Valley, About 60,00 years ago, the central part of Australia was covered by a large inland sea. The shores of the sea were covered with large tropical rainforests. Palm Valley is the last remaning part of these ancient rainforests. It is interesting to note that the Aboriginal culture still remembers the inland sea - the memory of this people reaches back further than the age of our own culture.

The valley is only accessible through a four-wheel drive track. Guided tours with converted four-wheel frive trucks are an easy way to reach the valley about 150 km west of Alice Springs.

About ten kilometers from the valley lies Hermannsburg, an old mission settlement where white Australians and Aboriginals live together in relative peace. Still the living conditions of the people leave a stale aftertaste.
