Queensland was mapped out by Mathew Flinders after Captain Cook sailed along the coast in 1770. 20 years later the first colony was erected in Moreton bay as a prison for those who were deported to Asutralia. In 1867, gold was found in Palmer River leading to a gold rush and many settlers came to Queensland.
